Howdy, I've worked up a Belt Drive conversion in SolidWorks for my (inherited) IH mill, that has never been turned on.** So should the bearing in the new top be angular contact? The old ones just read 6002 nothing else. Undoubtedly very cheap bearings no doubt. Another thing is the spindle feels a little rough at the bottom when I turn it by hand, like the bearing has grit in it or something.

The "rf" in rf 30 is short for "rong fu" who is a taiwanese machinery manufacturer, one of the better ones, actually. if you can, i'd go for a rf 45 which has a square column and scraped ways, so that you don't lose your setup when you move the head vertically. almost like a knee mill. i have a machine made by rong fu, and it works fine. i like it.

But at that time Rong Fu built a RF-45 mill with a built in 3 speed power downfeed and MSC industrial were at least one dealer for it. The bad news is it was a bit higher in price than what your thinking of. I ended up buying a 3/4 sized Bridgeport clone with the spindle feed, but have always wondered how that RF type mill would have worked out.
